Freaky Phantoms

Spooky MarshmellowsWith this fun idea, phantoms come to life for those with an undeniable Halloween sweet tooth!

What you will need:

  • A bag of large white marshmallows
  • Wooden skewers
  • White chocolate melts
  • Red M&Ms/other red, round candy pieces
  • Decorating gel/food pen in black

Instructions:

  1. To make a phantom, push three large marshmallows onto the end of a skewer.
  2. Melt the white chocolate melts in the microwave, on the lowest heat setting.
  3. Heat at 10-15 second intervals only to avoid burning.
  4. Check on progress and stir chocolate in between heating intervals to melt completely.
  5. Line a cookie sheet with wax paper.
  6. Hold each skewer over the container of melted white chocolate.
  7. Spoon chocolate over the marshmallows until covered.
  8. Decorate each phantom with red candy for eyes and draw mouths using the black gel/food pen.
  9. Place skewer on cookie sheet.
  10. When finished making all the phantoms, refrigerate until chocolate has hardened.
  11. Arrange phantoms upright in a container and serve.

Graveyard Spectacular

Halloween Grave Decoration For Your Food

Make for a hair-raising yet delicious party with this graveyard pudding treat! You can use store-bought chocolate pudding if you prefer.

What you will need:

  • 6 small glass/clear plastic tumblers or goblets
  • 45 g unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 45 g cornstarch
  • 30 g sugar
  • 340 ml milk
  • 15 g butter
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • Chocolate wafers/cookies, finely crushed
  • Round/oval sugar cookies
  • Gummy worms
  • Decorating gel/food pen in black

Instructions:

  1. To make the pudding, pour 225 ml of milk into a saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil on medium-high heat, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
  3. While waiting, mix the cornstarch, sugar, cocoa powder, salt and the remaining milk together in a bowl.
  4. When the milk begins to boil, turn the heat down to medium-low.
  5. Add the cocoa mixture in and whisk continuously for 8-10 minutes, or until the mixture achieves the thick consistency of pudding.
  6. Remove pan from heat. Add the butter and vanilla extract in.
  7. Whisk to mix thoroughly.
  8. Transfer to a container, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour before using.
  9. To make the graveyard, spoon the chocolate pudding into the tumblers or goblets until two-thirds full.
  10. Sprinkle a layer of crushed chocolate wafers/cookies over the pudding to form a mound of “dirt.”
  11. Stick a round/oval sugar cookie onto one end of the pudding to make the “tombstone.”
  12. Decorate the tombstone with lettering using the gel/food pen and pile a few gummy worms over the “dirt” to complete the graveyard effect.

Vampire’s Fruity Delight

Quench your guests’ thirst with this bloody, fruity concoction!

You can substitute juice flavours with whatever is handy.

What you will need:

  • 4 cups grape juice
  • 4 cups seltzer
  • 115 ml corn syrup
  • 6-8 drops red food colouring
  • Maraschino cherries
  • Cranberry/raspberry juice

Instructions:

  1. Put a maraschino cherry into each section of an ice cube tray.
  2. Fill with cranberry/raspberry juice and freeze.
  3. In a pitcher, mix grape juice and seltzer. Stir and set aside.
  4. Pour the corn syrup into a shallow bowl.
  5. Add red food colouring and stir.
  6. To serve, dip the rim of each glass in the syrup and stand them upright.
  7. The syrup will trickle down the sides of the glass.
  8. Fill each glass with juice and cherry-filled ice cubes.
